The Cambridge Basketball Club is a nonprofit organization formed to encourage the play of competitive basketball. We are here to encourage and support the growth of basketball in the Cambridge community. It is our mission to provide opportunities for the youth to learn the game of basketball and compete in leagues and tournaments that prepare them to compete in high school. We are here to assist the development of basketball and provide financial support in order to facilitate a supportive athletic program and educational experience for individuals desiring to play basketball.

While individual development is essential, our greatest achievements come when players compete for one another, represent Cambridge with pride, and raise the standard of the program together.
FAQ's and Expectations
Practice Expectations: Teams will practice two days a week. Practices will start in October and continue til the end of the teams last competition. It is expected that players attend all practices unless otherwise communicated with their coach.
Season Expectations: Teams will be placed in a league that is developmentally appropriate for their skill level. Teams will be a part of the Badger Development League (BDL), within this league there are 3 divisions based on skill level. Teams will compete on 5 different weekends with an end of the year tournament. We will explore all options to put teams into a league that is competitively appropriate for them. Teams will have the option to participate in two tournaments of their choice. As an organization we will help suggest tournaments that are developmentally appropriate.
Player Cost: $125 per player-
Team Make-ups: Every grade level will have an evaluation day to place kids on teams. This will be run by the high school coaches with the help of the volunteer coaches. Teams will be split evenly based on talent in 3rd and 4th grade. 5th grade through 8th grade will be split with an “A” and a “B” team. Players may be asked to play up a grade level if it is in the best interest for the player and the team. Players may also be asked to play on different teams throughout the year if teams are short for weekends.
Uniforms: Uniforms are included in part of the registration fee. We will reuse these jerseys year to year to help lower entry fees. These will be handed out at the beginning of the season and collected at the end of the season. If there are other basketball opportunities outside of the season that may require jerseys they can be requested and checked out to use.
Additional Tournaments: Each team is budgeted for two additional tournaments throughout the year. If there are teams that want to play in extra tournaments we will help cover a portion of those costs if the budget allows.
Host Dates: As part of fundraising efforts to keep entry fees lower we ask that each parent volunteers for 2 hours to help with host dates. Parents can choose to pay $150 in lieu of volunteering 2 hours.
Coaches Expectations: Coaches are expected to participate in the yearly coaching clinic put on by the high school program. It is expected that teams will run the same offense and defense ran at the high school level. The high school coaches are there as a resource for any questions/issues that you may have. As a coach you are held to a higher standard to represent Cambridge in a positive manner. Coaches should not be receiving technicals or getting ejected from games/events. If this becomes a recurring issue it will result in a meeting with the director.
Parent/Player Expectations: Parents and players are expected to represent Cambridge in a positive manner. This includes conduct towards officials, host workers, coaches and other players. Coaches are generously volunteering their time to coach your child. They are not professionals, they are doing their best to put your child in the best possible situation for them to succeed. Questions regarding X’s and O’s can be brought up to the director but not the coach. 24 Hour Rule: Parents are not allowed to confront coaches about issues related to basketball until 24 hours after their last completed game.
Playing Time: Playing time is based on the coach’s discretion. Playing time is based on practice/game attendance, attitude, ability, etc. Each player must play in each half of every game. If an issue arises about playing time there are 3 options families have in order. 1. The player can meet with the coach to ask about what they can do to earn more playing time. 2. The parent and player can meet with the coach about what the player can do to earn more playing time. 3. If these two options have not resolved the issue then the player, parent, coach and director can meet to discuss the situation. In these meetings other players will not get brought up ex. Why is so and so getting more playing time than me (my kid).
